“Impetus” Barbera Monferrato DOC 2001 The first of two "premium" Barbera's produced by this winemaker from the excellent 2001 harvest. Fermented and aged in a giant oak vat from only the finest grapes from the "sori" or best spot on top of the hill, after one year in the vat Impetus is then aged for a further year in the bottle before release. “Impetus” Barbera Monferrato DOC 2004 This is the 2nd vintage released by Roberto under the Impetus name and deservedly so, the winemaker has perfected the art of large oak vat production with Impetus Secondus. Nose, structure and taste are all perfectly aligned and although destined for cellar aging this 2004 Barbera d'Asti is drinking very well now (decant two hours before drinking). Will improve for 8 or more years.

From Castelnuovo Belbo part of the prestigious Nizza Monferrato wine zone of Piedmont. The winemakers are escapee's from corporate life in the UK and are quickly building up a reputation for their attention to detail and meticulous production methods whilst maintaining Piedmontese traditions. Dolcetto d'Asti 2006/7 , like Barbera, Dolcetto is a classic Piedmont red wine, it is slightly smoother and fruitier than the average Barbera and has a distinctive plumb and tobacco nose. Drinking well now.
