With the chancellors sobering budget it seems that the good things in life are going to get even more expensive, food, wine and travel. It certainly won't make business  any easier for us small producers. The new duty on wine means every bottle will go up by 14p,  sorry to you all but the increase is outside of our control.  However, a little piece of good news,  although the tax will be charged from this weekend, we have decided to freeze our prices un

 Interesting to note that in Hong Kong the Chinese government has just abolished the 40% tax on wine, making every bottle on average 22% less expensive. Hong Kong Financial Secretary John Tsang said that scrapping all duty on wine and beer was to help economic growth by creating a wine and beer trading and distribution market in Hong Kong. We will watch the space with interest because we expect that some of the worlds finest wines will end up in cellars somewhere in this booming southern Chinese territory.

- Monferatto Rosso DOC 2005 - Aldo Soave, Castelnuovoe Belbo

  This is a great wine heavily disguised by its modest title (Monferrato Rosso) as it is grown on the hill above our own vineyards in Castelnuovo Belbo - not a zone recognised as Nebbiolo terroir, but it is nonetheless Nebbiolo and good value for money - try it and you will not be disappointed (very affordable compared to the usual Nebbiolo offerings of Barberesco and Barolo). Opening up nicely for drinking in 2008.
